I got into coding during my time at secondary school near Bridgend, Wales and have been working in development ever since. I enjoyed building with code and my love for it just continues to grow.
After leaving college, I worked for various software agencies and landed in Birmingham in 2011, sucked in by the city’s creativity and buzz. It took me years to realise I’d made it my home, and whilst I’m still a proud Welshman, my roots are now firmly planted here. I started out as an individual developer, but after the company I worked for relocated, I wanted to start a company that loves the community it’s part of and has a team of…more than one.
Why I love Laravel
As many of you will know, I love the Laravel framework for many reasons:
- We can skeleton out and start developing applications at speed.
- The sheer amount of quality packages that are available to use.
- This was the framework that actually helped me understand how to write tests.
The main reason I love Laravel is the amazing community that comes with it. There are always so many great events going on, so many great developers and speakers creating some amazing content. So it was only natural that we became a Laravel partner in 2019 and sponsored this year’s Laracon Online event. Read more about that here.
WHAT NOW?
I co-founded Jump24 with an ambition to run an agency the way I felt it should be run. I never thought it would go from strength to strength into what it is today. I am incredibly proud of what we’ve built so far and having a team of skilled people around me – the developers and non-technical team members – keeps the company going.
At Jump, we always say that, “What one person doesn’t know another will and what we don’t know, we research”. We apply that belief to everything we do, working together and figuring out what we don’t already know. It means we’re always learning and rely on each other to do the best work we can for clients. I want to keep doing that for as long as possible.
