We’ve been enthusiastic participants in Laracon events for years and had previously contributed to the Laracon Scholarship program, which provides free tickets to people who couldn’t afford it otherwise. When we were asked if we could help make the event free to everyone by becoming a sponsor, we jumped at the chance. Getting excited about the build up to the conference and watching it live, knowing that we had a part in making the event free and accessible to all, was an amazing feeling.
The talks were very different to what we’ve seen in previous years and gave us tips and tricks to use in our everyday development. Seeing viewers en masse really drove home the reach that Laravel has. It was great to see some soft skill talks as well, and the team were really excited to be able to watch. We really enjoyed the variety in the program, some of our favourite talks were:
Aaron Francis’ fascinating display of his approach to using sidecar to write and deploy PHP code into a Lambda function in seconds.
Steve McDougall’s Excellent live demonstration of good practices when implementing an API. And his nerves of steel.
Erika Heidi’s very informative talk with such a lovely personal twist. It’s brilliant to see why and how someone gets into the tech industry.
Caleb Porzio’s talk reminded us how useful good old Blade is.
And of course Taylor Otwell’s visual presentation of some of the changes in the application.

Making the video
Making our sponsorship video was a real challenge. I have major imposter syndrome and frankly hate the sound of my own voice, but getting to see more of the team in person after working remotely for so long was brilliant and it helped me to be a little less nervous.
We worked with Richard and Jordan from Artifact Multimedia and we’re immensely proud of how it turned out. Not only did the video act as our sponsorship introduction, but it will also allow us to present the Jump24 culture and what we’re all about to future clients and hires (and we ARE hiring!). If you missed it at Laracon or on our socials, give it a watch below.
We’re already looking forward to the next Laracon event. If you know of any events we could attend or sponsor, let us know on Twitter (@jumptwenty4) or send us an email hello@jump24.co.uk.
